The Arlus Region (アールス地方, Aarusu Chihou) is a region in Suikoden, located in the Toran Republic.
Overview[]
The area surrounding Gregminster, the capital of the Republic of Toran, is also known as "The Land of Arlus." This region, was once home to the Holy City of Rupanda in the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia. It is the birthplace of the Scarlet Moon Empire, ruled by the Rugner family.
The Land of Arlus is well-protected, with strongholds like the Kwaba Fortress and the water-based Shasarazade Fortress guarding its borders. To the west lies the rugged mountain range the Banner Mountains, while the southern defenses include these formidable forts, making the area highly resistant to invasions. These two fortresses, along with the mountains, serve as the final defensive line to protect the capital from invasions originating in other regions. It is said that, if not for the corruption during the rule of the 17th Scarlet Moon Emperor, Barbarossa Rugner, this region would still serve as the heart of an unassailable empire.
Arlus belongs to the temperate zone and is known for its mild, temperate climate. The region has long been a hub of commerce and culture. The region is also economically advantageous to do its proximity to Lake Toran, the major waterway bringing in trade from all corner of the world. The Arlus region also specializes in producing many of the goods for trade, including art, ceramics, wine, and armor. Its high level of civilization and thriving trade have attracted many travelers throughout history.

- The name of the region is never mentioned in the games, but is described in various Japanese publications about the series.
- Since this location was never localized, the exact spelling is unknown. It is most often translated as Arlus, but has been translated as Arus.
- Interestingly, there is a king of melon (cantaloupe) in Japan using the same katakana. It is sometimes romanized as Ars or Arus. There is also a company in Japan using the same katakana called Earl's Favorite that makes leather goods, such as bags and wallets.
- There are several other possibly ways to localize this location including Arles and Arliss.
- Some older sites state that the Holy City of Rupanda, and thus Gregminster (or Gregminster Castle) sit on Sindar Ruins. This is not mentioned in any supplemental materials released for the game.
