The Battle Alongside the Matilda Knights (マチルダ騎士団共同戦: Machiruda Kishidan Kyoudou-sen), previously known as the Battle in Matilda Territory (マチルダ領での戦い; Machiruda-ryou de no Tatakai) and the Matilda Border Conflict (マチルダ国境戦; Machiruda Kokkyou-sen), is the fifth army battle in Suikoden II.
Description[]
The Battle Alongside the Matilda Knights is the battle that led to Miklotov and Camus leaving the Matilda Knights.
During the Dunan Unification War, refugees and resistance fighters fleeing from Muse City into Matilda territory were pursued by the Highland Army. Witnessing this, Miklotov requested Gorudo issue deployment orders. However, Gorudo coldly responded that he had no intention of interfering in matters beyond the border, effectively abandoning the refugees. Gorudo ordered the gates at the Muse-Matilda Border closed, abandoning the refugees. Miklotov later set out on his own, but he was unable to rescue the refugees in the end.
Outraged by Gorudo’s cruelty, Miklotov and Camus renounced their knighthood and joined the New State Army to uphold their true code of chivalry.

This battle has multiple names depending on the source. The Genso Suikoden Encyclopaedia lists the name of the battle as the Battle in Matilda Territory (マチルダ領での戦い). The Genso Suikoden Kiwami Daijiten meanwhile calls it the Matilda Border Conflict (マチルダ国境戦). The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster updated the name to the Battle Alongside the Matilda Knights.
