"Oh my, trouble again. It's not easy serving you, Young Master." |
Cleo is the Tenman Star in Suikoden.
She also appears in Suikoden II.
Profile[]
Background[]
Cleo is the only female member of Teo McDohl's household as a servant and guardian for his son, Tir McDohl, however, she begun service as a guardian/bodyguard to Teo McDohl himself, and fought alongside him during many wars.
Appearance[]
Cleo has brown hair done in a masculine style, and dark colored eyes. She wears a distinctive purple colored forehead guard, and purple matching wrist guards and pants. As well, she has on a brown and silver half plated armor over her upper body; and very large leg guards.
Personality[]
Cleo is the only female member among Tir McDohl's bodyguards, and as such she tries to keep a rather tom-boyish attitude about things, even willing to jump into a fight that one of "the boys" starts up. She often acts as a sort of "older sister" figure to Tir, and tries her best to keep the others in check, but also enjoying a good fight with the rest of them.
As well, she seems to live by the mantra that if someone is weak, they should not fight, as they will only throw their life away pointlessly; something she expresses to Hix one time, when he asks her if, as a "weak" individual, he should fight.
Story[]
Suikoden I[]
When Tir was called to serve the Empire, Cleo went with him along with Pahn, Gremio, and Ted. The job they were assigned led Tir to question the empire, and when Ted fell afoul of Court Magician Windy, Cleo, Tir, and Gremio were forced to flee Gregminster with the help of Viktor. Cleo remained with Tir until the end of the Toran Liberation War. After the war, Cleo retired from military duty and lives at the McDohl mansion.
Suikoden II[]
During the Dunan Unification War, when Riou visited Gregminster, Cleo was still living in the McDohl mansion.
Role in the Game[]
She joins Tir automatically in Gregminster.
Cleo is a required member of the main battle party during the early part of the game. Her long range weapon, medium armor, and rune spell abilities make her a good back row character. She will also protect Tir in combat if Tir is at critical HP.

Cleo has a good magic rune growth, making her ideal for magic runes. As Leknaat gives her a Fire Rune to protect Tir, it is a viable choice for the early portions of the game. However, as many options become more available, it's advisable to make good use of her high MP with the other elements or eventually update her Fire Rune to Rage Rune. She makes an excellent and fast healer with the Flowing Rune in the later stages of the story, when monsters and bosses frequently use special attacks that target the entire team.

- Cleo's diary has been locked through the course of both Suikoden and Suikoden II. There is no way for the player to ever read its content in either game. Trying to read her journal in Suikoden, while she is in the room, will have her comment on the player's behaviour.
- Maria is the name she chose as her fake name in Suikoden.
- Old footage from the V-Jump festival in 1994, shows Cleo as a short ranged fighter wielding a sword. Source
