Map of the Dragon Knight's Domain
A small and isolated region in the mountains of Toran, the Dragon Knight's Domain is home to the most uniquely governed land in the Toran Republic. The Dragon Knights have always proclaimed Dragon Knights' Fortress and its surrounding areas to be an independent state. They do not answer to any higher power but the Commander of the Dragon Knights. However, due to their desire to keep their autonomy, they often use their unique military unit in exchange for services performed for other nearby nations, such as the Toran Republic.
The Dragon Knights are a small, insularly focused community. All Dragon Knights are trained from a very young age on in Goya, their families living with them in the mountains. Unless an apprentice knight can bond with a dragon by the time he or she reaches the age of 5, however, they are dropped from the pool of possible knighthood applicants. Of those who do bond with a dragon, they continue to train as an apprentice and dragon knight until either they or the dragon they bonded with dies. Following the death of a dragon, his or her surviving rider is banished from the knights until they find a new dragon to bond with. Given that most have spent nearly their entire lives in the enclave, the shock of being forced to leave is nearly as great as that of losing their dragon itself.
The area is quite mountainous and cold.
