Dunan Lake (デュナン湖; Dunan Ko) is a lake in the Suikoden series, and features prominently in Suikoden II.
Description[]
It is a large deep-bottomed lake always covered in fog that spreads out in the middle of Dunan. It forms at the Tenzan Pass and runs all the way down into Toran Lake. It has many tributaries, such as the Dunan River and Lana River; tributaries from Dunan Lake flow from Two River to Tenzan Pass and even flow as far south as into Toran Lake.
The water temperature is relatively high, and since it never freezes even in the middle of winter, it is also a place where the fishing industry is prosperous year round. There are always fishing boats and trading vessels busily coming and going on the surface of the lake. It has an abundance of aquatic products which serves as a food source for the people living around the lake. The aquatic life that can be caught here include squid, stone fish, shellfish, blow fish, and shrimp. The best catch for the fishermen in the area is salmon, although it is seldom caught.
The lake is an important nexus of trade, with several large booming towns, including Kuskus, Coronet and Dunan Castle. Using the water currents that connect to lands and seas that are far away, it is possible to earn money through trade with distant towns. In addition, it is also a point of cultural pride for South Window principality - so much so that the design on South Window City's flag represents the lake and the rivers that flow into it.
