The Earring (イヤリング; Iyaringu) is a key item in Suikoden.
Description[]
An item entrusted to Tir by the dying Odessa Silverberg, the first leader of the Liberation Army. She asked that it be given to her brother, Mathiu. Inside the earring is a small map indicating the location of the Liberation Army's hideout. This item became the catalyst for Tir to take over the Liberation Army, embodying Odessa's earnest desire for liberation from the Empire's oppression.
Story[]
Just before Odessa's death, she asked a final request to Tir; to give this earring to a man called Mathiu who lived in Seika. Tir accepted the request and went on with his group to Seika to speak with Mathiu. When Tir presented the earring to Mathiu, he directly understood that his sister was dead, but refused to take it. Instead Mathiu asked Tir to keep the earring because it was destined for a leader. Mathiu only saw himself as a strategist, not a leader. When examined closely, the earring contained the location of the the Liberation's Army hideout. As Mathiu stated; "Whoever holds this earring is destined to lead the Liberation Army".
Trivia[]
- While in the inventory menu the item is described as "Earrings" in plural form, it is mistranslated. The item is in fact only a single earring.
- Also, while it is translated as earring, a more proper description would be a "clip-on earring." In Japanese, earring is used for those that are clipped on to your ear, while ピアス (piasu, pierce) is used for the ones that go in holes made in the ear (piercings).
