Fishing with Yam Koo
Fishing (魚釣り; Sakanatsuri) is an outdoor activity which is proposed in Suikoden II, Suikoden IV and Suikoden V. The goal is to catch fish, but there are also various other items to be fished out. The fish caught can then be used as ingredient for restaurants. In order to do the fishing activity a fisherman is needed.
Fishing with Ugetsu
Pole fishing[]
This activity can be done while standing on the shore or on a boat. When fishing while on a small boat, it is possible to choose the best spot or even guess the size of the fish by analyzing the shadows moving in the waters.
In order to fish, you need a pole and a bait, for which it is not uncommon to have to pay a small sum of potch. After casting the line, you have to wait until a fish bites on it, then you have to pull it back to you, following its movements and the tension of the line. If you pull too hard, the line will likely break and the fish will escape with your bait. On the other hand, if the line has not enough tension, the fish will manage to get free and the bait will also be lost. Fishes of high value tend to be more difficult to catch, for their movements are unpredictable and quick.
However, depending on the cleanness of the waters you fish in, you can also drag up boots, sunken pots, or even pieces of armor.
Fishing with Subula
Net fishing[]

It consists in casting a net from a ship while it sails, and the fishes will be caught in the net as it moves forward. It is even possible to catch fish if the boat isn't moving. Every now and then, you haul up the net and pick up your catch. Among the fish and seashells, it is quite frequent to haul up sunken treasures as well, especially on the sites of naval battles.

- Yam Koo is the person to talk to if you wish to fish in Suikoden II. Yam Koo will also buy the unneeded or inedible fish.
- Ugetsu and Shiramine offer both types of fishing in Suikoden IV. The fish can be transformed into food and you can keep the various objects hauled up with the net.
- Subala organizes fishing contests with Lun and Logg in Suikoden V. You get to keep the pots and armor sets you fish out and you get potch for winning the contests.

According to Japanese sources, the following seven kinds of fish could be caught while fishing: shellfish, shrimp, salmon, blowfish, scorpion fish/stone fish, whitefish, and squid.
