Flik is the Tenan Star in Suikoden and Suikoden II.
He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 1.
Profile[]
Background[]
Before the Gate Rune Wars, Flik left the Warrior's Village to begin his trials. He became a mercenary, which is how he met Odessa Silverberg. They fell in love, Flik with Odessa's leadership and Odessa with Flik's ability to put things into action.
In the tradition of his home town, the Warrior's Village, he named his sword Odessa, after the one he loves. In the first game, he is a member of an underground resistance, and in the second a mercenary, partnered with Viktor in both games.
Appearance[]
Flik appears to have a short spiked sandy brown/black hair (brown/gray in both his CGI and his in-game appearance and different shades of brown in his game dubbing icon in the first Suikoden) with fringes in each sides and three upper fringes on his head. He is commonly seen wearing a blue headband on his forehead and blue eyes.
In the first Suikoden, he wears a white turtleneck shirt with a purple breast armor, blue pants and brown v-shaped knee-high boots. He also wears long brown gloves and a blue cloaked mantle to cover both of his shoulders and the interior of his mantle is dark blue.
In Suikoden II, which is three years after the first Suikoden, Flik's appearance remains the same as his blue cloaked mantle has minor changes. He now has a dark brown collar on his cloaked mantle and the interior of his mantle is blue gray.
He now wears a dark blue long sleeved tunic with gray lines in each sides which is tucked in a brown belt with a yellow turtleneck shirt underneath and a dark blue and brown chest armor, dark brown pants with blue band on his left thigh and different shades of blue and brown boots with brown straps. He also wears short brown gloves.
Personality[]
Flik is described as being a brave and serious person, but is also caring towards his lover, Odessa Silverberg in her leadership with the resistance. When he heard the news that Odessa was killed, Flik is shown to be vengeful and furious, and he refuses to join the Liberation Army due to this. The only people can convince him to join the Liberation Army was both Viktor and it's leader, Tir McDohl, whom he gains a partnership with. After Barbarossa's defeat, he is shown to be confident in fighting alongside Viktor when they let Tir and the group escape the castle.
In Suikoden II, Flik now shows his leadership and confidence when he and Viktor are leaders of the mercenary troop, especially when he teaches Riou how to duel one-on-one. During the war, Flik also expresses his sadness when the mayor of South Window, Granmeyer, was executed by Solon Jhee and also shows his bravery as a warrior when he fights both the Highland soldiers in the war and the zombies summoned by Neclord after discovering Riou's attempted escape.
Flik is also shown to be a comic relief to the other characters, where he was mistaken by Riou and the group as the mysterious shadow during Greenhill, as well as being dragged twice by Nina, who had a huge crush on him. Finally, in the three bath scenes, he mocks Viktor for being a 'fatso' causing Viktor to get mad and also to compare him with Riou's hardworking job. In their conversation about women, Nina is on the scene.
Story[]
Suikoden I[]
When Flik is away from the hideout at Lenankamp, Odessa is killed, although he doesn't learn of this until months later, when he gathers remnants of the resistance to meet up with her in Toran Castle, where she's rumored to be. Enraged at the news of Odessa's death, Flik returns to Kaku, refusing to join the current Liberation Army, and refusing Tir as its leader. Viktor convinces Flik to join, and Flik forms a partnership with Tir. After the events at Scarleticia, Flik acknowledges what Odessa saw in Tir and recognizes him as the leader of the Liberation Army.
Flik later joins Humphrey and Tir to attempt to recruit the Dragon Knights, where they find the dragons have been poisoned. Flik, Humphrey, Tir, and company travel on Thrash with Milia to Seek Valley to retrieve the Moonlight Weed to cure the sick dragons. With the ingredients obtained and the dragons revived, the Dragon Knights join the Liberation Army.
Once the final army battle with Gregminster is finished, Flik joins Viktor and Tir for the final attack in Gregminster castle to face Emperor Barbarossa. With Barbarosa's defeat, Gregminster palace begins to crumble, and Flik and Viktor remain behind to hold off soldiers so that Tir can escape. Flik and Viktor aren't seen for some time after the final battle.
Suikoden II[]
Three years later, Flik and Viktor are leaders of a mercenary troop in the employ of Muse, keeping the peace at the border with Highland. During a patrol, Viktor and Flik come across Riou, who has been washed downstream. Flik was unable to save Riou's friend, Jowy, as he wasn't seen. Later on, Jowy is eventually rescued by Pilika while Riou is taken back to Viktor's Mercenary camp as a "prisoner". One night, Riou is freed by Jowy and they flee back to Highland. Viktor has taken a liking to the boy, and he and Flik follow them, arriving just in time to save both boys from execution by hanging as "traitors". They return to the Mercenary Fortress, where Flik and Viktor charge the boys with recruiting Tsai to repair their Fire Spears.
When the area is being invaded by Highland, Riou wants to fight alongside the mercenaries. To test him, Flik challenges Riou to a duel to gauge his swordsmanship. When Riou manages to hit Flik, he lets them join. When Luca Blight attacks the fort, Viktor and Flik throw some fire spears into the boiler, which destroys the fort but allows them to escape.
Flik and Viktor meet up with Riou and the others in Muse, where they're employed by Anabelle to defend Muse from Highland's advance. Muse too is eventually overrun and they are once again forced to flee.
Everyone regroups once more in South Window. While Viktor, Riou, and company are sent to investigate North Window, Flik remains behind. When South Window is attacked, Flik helps the others escape to North Window, where the decision is made to establish the New State Army, with Riou as leader.
When the time came to infiltrate Greenhill to rescue Teresa, Flik chaperones Riou, Nanami, and two other school-aged members of the New State Army who pose as students. During their stay, Nina becomes infatuated with Flik, and joins the New State Army to follow him.
If Riou chooses to run away with Nanami; Flik, Shu, and Apple catch up with Riou in Drakemouth, where Flik displays his swordsmanship when he dispatches several zombies single-handedly, then knocking out Nanami by accident when she surprised him. If Riou chooses to rejoin the Allied army, Flik escorts them back to Crom Village. Flik is one of the few, along with Viktor, Shu, Apple, and Klaus, to know of Riou's attempted escape.
After the war, Flik left with Viktor on a journey, during which they helped Edge eliminate vampires from his village, then took part in the Higheast Rebellion.
Role in the Game[]
He joins automatically in Kaku when Viktor and Tir speak to him after the events in Pannu Yakuta occur.
Flik is a regularly-required party member. He has good physical abilities and is fair with his Lightning Rune.

Flik comes with a Lightning Rune attached, but which can be removed. Upgrading to the Thunder Rune is recommended. Once he is at a higher character level, his sword attack becomes more useful than his magic, and equipping him with either a Fury Rune or a Double Beat Rune can turn him into an extremely powerful front line character.

Flik joins automatically in South Window.
Flik is still an effective and reliable front line fighter and competent magic rune user, much like in the first game. His affinity with the lightning element remains, so he works well with the Lightning Rune and later the Thunder Rune. He has solid physical stats and good survivability and the ability to carry shields as part of his gear further augments it.

Note: Flik still wields his sword named after his love.

- Cross Attack with Viktor does 1.5x damage to one enemy with 30% chance of knockdown.
- Groupie Attack with Nina does 2.5x damage to one enemy, Nina unbalances.
- Fancy Lad Attack, mistranslated as Pretty Boy Attack, with Camus and Miklotov does 1.5x damage to one enemy with a 25% chance of instant death.
Flik is an Archery Unit with 7 ATK and 7 DEF.
Flik is the first character to have a cavalry in the war tactics, during the protection of their fort against Solon Jhee and his comrades, and is equivalent to Culgan in bombarding the enemy frontlines as a bow cavalry sprite. He is also equipped with the Fire Spear in the beginning of the game to decapacitate his enemies in a single damage. He, alongside Teresa, Kasumi, and Ayda, are the only characters that can bombard the enemy frontlines with the use of bow and arrows. When he is sided with any character that has high attack or defense, he will be evenly matched with Culgan in terms of bombarding the enemy.

From: Warrior's Village, Toran Republic
Position: Archer Captain
"Flik's from Warrior's Village. Their custom is that a young man has to go on a journey to complete his 'Manhood Ritual'. Flik is in the middle of that journey, but he doesn't plan on returning to the village."
"While he was on his journey to manhood, he met Odessa and she changed his life forever. Odessa became the first leader of the Toran Liberation Army with him as her first lieutenant."
"Flik and Odessa were lovers, but she was assassinated early on in the war. I can tell from the look on his face that he still sometimes thinks about her..."
Go with Viktor and Riou only into the Cypress and Jungle Bath. In the Marble Bath, Nina was included in the scene. Flik is the only character to mock Viktor personally in his physical appearance, calling him a 'fatso' and making the latter get angry to him as well as to make a fuss with him to show that Riou was hardworking than he does in the first bath scene. In the third and final bath scene, he also comments to both Viktor and Riou when they had a conversation about women, as Nina was mentioned, he blushes in embarrassment, and saying that she's only a little to like her as Nina hears his comment. Both he and Nina are seen blushing after the scene.
"Sir Flik is a man with good common sense. We can expect fair judging from him."
Trivia[]
- There seems to be a running gag about Flik and the Fire Spears in both games... as he is always the one who brings it up, rather excitedly.. "The Fire Spear!!"
- Another running gag seems to be Flik attracting unwanted feminine attention.
- In Suikoden II, there is some entertaining additional dialog if Flik and Viktor are in the party when meeting with Hix and Tengaar in Lakewest.
- Bluto, Blue Thunder and Sturtheim Reinbach III (a typo in the translation, as it was supposed to be Schtolteheim) were his options of fake names in Suikoden II.
- Flik has the shortest description from his official profile in the remastered version, describing him as the swordsman who aided Viktor and his mercenary group whom he had a strong bond due to their companionship.
