Futch is the Chibi Star in Suikoden, Suikoden II, and
Suikoden III. He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 2.

Profile

Background

Futch is a Dragon Knight from the Dragon Knights Fortress. He is 11 in Suikoden, 14 in Suikoden II, and 29 in Suikoden III.

A highly skilled Dragon Knight, Futch has been caring for dragons and fighting as a dragon knight his whole life. However, his membership of the Dragon Knights ceased temporarily when his dragon, Black, was killed by the Court Magician Windy during the Toran Liberation War.

Personality

When he was young, he was a sassy boy and once argued with Ted before taking Tir and his friends to meet Leknaat because he didn't like that Ted called him a "punk".

Story

Suikoden I

Futch was a ninth class Dragon Knight (apprentice). Tir first encountered Futch when he accompanied him and his group to the Magician's Island to retrieve the astrological predictions from Leknaat. He and Ted had a argued during the mission.

When the Dragons became sick because of the sleeping poison, Futch was tasked with obtaining the Black Dragon Orchid from the imperial garden. He encountered Emperor Barbarossa Rugner who was out on sleepless night. He generously allowed Futch to take the Black Dragon Orchid. Unfortunately as Futch was about to leave with Black, Windy returned from Seek Valley. Angry over the Soul Eater, she lashed out on Futch and Black and the two fell down from the sky. Futch lost consciousness because of the attack but the Black Dragon Orchid remained in his hands.

When he regained consciousness, he was informed that the dragons awakened but Black died and his liver was taken to use for the antidote.

As a rule, when a Dragon Knight loses his Dragon he must leave the Dragon's Den. Joshua asked Humphrey to look after Futch.

Suikoden II

During the Dunan Unification War, Futch, with Humphrey and Riou, while they were at Rakutei Mountain looking for Kent, rescued a baby white dragon at the top of the mountain. Futch decided to adopt it as his own, both caring and nurturing it, therefore preventing it from becoming a renegade dragon. He named the dragon Bright after the Bright Shield Rune of Riou, the hero of Suikoden II.

Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 2

Not long after the events of the Dunan Unification War, Futch ventured to the One Temple in Harmonia's Crystal Valley with Humphrey in search of information concerning dragons.

Suikoden III

Several years later, Futch was promoted to the rank of Dragon Knight Regiment Commander and became the assistant of Dragon Knight Captain Milia. He was sent by Milia to find her wayward daughter, Sharon, and help the Flame Champion during the Second Fire Bringer War against the forces of Harmonia and the Destroyers. Bright came along as well. After the war, he rejoined the Dragon Knights, and began studying for a 3rd degree ranking.

One of the Dragon Knights. He's on patrol on the order of his captain. His partner is Bright, the white dragon.

I saw Sharon and the Dragon Knights attack. It was so amazing.

When they go out together, Fred, Franz and Futch make a very handsome trio. They are just like rock stars!

He carries a big sword on his back, which was given to him as a gift of gratitude. Bright was also fond of him.

Trivia

• Unless all 108 Stars have been obtained, he is the only character to be playable through the first three games.
• Futch is the most recurring male character in the series, appearing in the first three games, as well as Genso Suikoden Card Stories and Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 2.
• In Suikoden and Suikoden II, Futch's main weapon is a spear. In Suikoden III, he wields Humphrey's sword, Murasame. This makes Futch one of only a few characters to use a different weapon in another appearance.
• Futch is the only other character besides Tir, in Suikoden, that the player can control. Although it is very brief, and story related. The player controls Futch, when he visits Gregminster Palace, in search of the Black Dragon Orchid.
• In the Suikoden II novels (volume 3), Riou and his party meet Humphrey and Futch after leaving Matilda with Camus and Miklotov. When they meet, Futch already has Bright with him.
