Genkaku was a character mentioned in Suikoden II.
Profile[]
Genkaku was a great hero of the City-States of Jowston, and a close friend of similiarly respected Highland Kingdom hero, Han Cunningham. At some unspecified point in the past, the two came across the two halves of the Rune of Beginning, with Genkaku receiving the Bright Shield Rune.
History[]
Genkaku rose to prominence during the Highland-Jowston War. When it appeared that Jowston was poised to quickly capitulate to Highland, Genkaku succeeded in raiding a Highland supply camp to slow them down. With the help from the Bright Shield Rune, Genkaku went on to lead the entire Jowston Army and managed to push Highland back to their borders. A stalemate ensued, and the two countries began peace negotiations.
There was one border city, Kyaro, that the City-States refused to give up. Then-King of Highland Agares Blight suggested a duel between champions, Han Cunningham and Genkaku. During the duel on Jowston Hill, the Mayor of Muse, Darell, had Genkaku's blade coated in poison. Genkaku detected it and could not bring himself to swing his sword against his best friend. Han had no choice but to declare victory, and thus Kyaro was won by Highland. Genkaku was then exiled from Jowston by Mayor Darell and lived out his life in Kyaro. One year after the Highland-Jowston War, he was found not guilty and his name was being cleared, but he never returned to City-States of Jowston and chose to remain living in Kyaro for the rest of his life. Han Cunningham and Genkaku sealed their runes at the shrine in Toto village.
In Kyaro, Genkaku opened a dojo and adopted two war orphans by the names of Nanami and Riou. He shaped up the two orphans to become quite the martial arts experts, but, unfortunately, could not see them grow into adulthood, as he passed away in SY 458 out of old age.
