A Glitch, or Bug, is a slang for an error, malfunction, mishap, or technical problem in a computer system. It's as well also a word to refer to errors or overlooks in a videogame programing. The Suikoden series has several glitches; some beneficial, others very harmful. Most of the beneficial glitches are used by speedrunners.
Suikoden[]
Stat Stones Glitch[]
This glitch allows to exploit an infinite source of Stat Stones. Basically the player has to use the Stat Stones he already has in his inventory, and after the game over, the player load its save normally and the stats modifications remains on the character while the stone items remains also in the inventory, that way, the player can repeat the trick infinitely. This glitch is also present in Suikoden II.
Unlimited Escape Talismans Glitch[]
Both Stallion and Krin carries an Escape Talisman in their inventory by default. this talisman has unlimited uses as long as you keep it in the character's respective inventory. It loses its properties if you transfer it to someone else or put it in the warehouse.
Note: This glitch doesn't work in the Saturn version of Suikoden.
Balloon Status Glitch[]
There is a glitch in Suikoden concerning the Balloon Status, if you have three balloons you can still do battle encounters, but your characters are automatically removed from the battle, you have still the battle choice you can use, but only "Let Go" or "Bribe" would be needed here, as choosing "Fight" or "Free Will" will automatically trigger the Game Over screen.
Note: This glitch work in all versions including the PSP and Saturn versions.
Bribe Glitch[]
The Bribe Glitch is a way to use the command Bribe even during Boss Battles, as such, skipping the encounter totally. The glitch consist in choosing the command Bribe and pressing the confirm button before a popup saying that the Bribe has failed appears. If done correctly, the battle will abruptly end, and the story will progress normally as if you "won" the encounter. The downside of using this glitch, is that you won't get any experience, money and drop from the battle.
Note: Also works on the PSP version, but not in the Saturn version.
Invisible Viki[]
You can use Viki's teleport services before recruiting her. To do so, put Cleo as the last member of your party, and press the talk button on the spot Viki is supposed to be at Toran Castle's Basement when you recruit her normally. If you do it on the right spot, an invisible Viki will offer you her teleport services, despite not being recruited yet.
Note: This glitch doesn't work in the Saturn and PSP version of Suikoden.
Inversed Rune Piece Stats[]
In Suikoden, a coding issue exists regarding the Earth Rune Piece and Wind Rune Piece. When attached, their attributes and stats are inversed, Earth Rune Pieces have the stats and effects of the Wind Rune Pieces, and the Wind Rune Pieces have those for the Earth Rune Pieces.
Note: It happens in all versions of the PS1 game, including the PSP version. The Saturn version, however, doesn't feature this glitch.
Suikoden II[]
Muse-Matilda Border Glitch[]
The Muse-Matilda Border gate is an interactive object flagged as if it were a pushable box or a boulder. As such, the player can move it, being able to access the Matilda area, early in the game. This glitch allows you to complete the Futch sidequest, so you can recruit both Humphrey and Futch very early in the game. The monsters in that area are fairly strong in comparison to your current level, but if you manage to win the random battles you will gain a considerable amount of experience and number of levels, which will make normal progression in the game fairly easy.
Note: This glitch has been fixed in Genso Suikoden I & II PSP version.
Easy Luca Blight Defeat[]
During the preparations for the Luca Blight Assault, before heading into the war room and moving out, make a party of 6. With the party of six, make sure you put Riou in the 4th (bottom-left) slot, then head into the war room. When assembling your parties, Riou will appear to be in the first slot, DO NOT put anyone else in Riou's party. Go fight Luca, and when you're at Riou's part, Luca will not attack at all because he is a short-ranged attacker.
Note: This glitch has been fixed in Genso Suikoden I & II PSP version.
Hans Shop Glitch[]
This glitch involves some simple calculations, use the following example as a guide to see how it is done. Equip one character with Dragon Armor (23,000 potch), and make sure that at least two other characters have no armor equipped, but can wear Dragon Armor. You should also have 23,000 to 30,000 potch. Talk to Hans, go to buy, then choose to purchase Dragon Armor. When prompted to place it in the bag or to equip it, choose to equip it on the character already wearing Dragon Armor. When prompted to sell the old armor or put it in the bag, cancel the action. You should still be in "buying mode" for the armor. Simply purchase and equip the two armorless characters Dragon Armor. The potch meter will reset to somewhere around 999,999.
Note: This glitch has been fixed in Genso Suikoden I & II PSP version.
Recipe Glitch[]
If you deliver a recipe that only could be got through defeating an enemy, the game will stop dropping these recipes if you deliver at least one of them to Hai Yo. The recipes that are affected by this glitch are: Recipe #12, Recipe #21, Recipe #29, Recipe #34, and Recipe #36. It's advised to gather all the five recipes first before delivering them to Hai Yo, in order to avoid this glitch.
McDohl Name Glitch (US version)[]
In the american version, there is a bug concerning McDohl's name in Suikoden II when transferring data from a Suikoden I file. When transferred data is brought in, it only transfers capital letters and symbols from the save data and then uses it to replace a letter from the default name. So if you named him "Tir" in Suikoden I, he'll be called "TcDohl" in Suikoden II. If you named him "MASTER" in Suikoden I, he'll be called "MASTER" in Suikoden II.
Note: This bug was corrected in the PAL versions of the game.
Kindness Rune Glitch[]
When a character who is not Riou dies in combat, he or she loses 1 Kindness point. If the character had 0 Kindness Points, the character will end up having -1 Kindness Point. The game can't handle negative values for this equation, and the bonus that the rune gives will actually overflow towards absurd numbers. The character can easily end up with 999 ATK with this method.
Note: This glitch has been fixed in Genso Suikoden I & II PSP version.
Sheep Glitch[]
After recruiting Yuzu and she sets up her ranch, you can start to gather animals to fill the ranch. One of them is a sheep that can be found in the Kobold Forest. If you open the first chest (containing a Necklace) on the very right, the sheep will not appear anymore, and couldn't be obtained at all. Likewise if you take the sheep first, and go back to check the first chest, it will be already opened. This is because the chest has its ID value shared with the sheep. The best in this case it is to not open the first chest at all, sacrificing the Necklace and taking the sheep instead, since it is a more important item to gather.
Suikoden III[]
Chris Level 99 trick[]
Before Chris Chapter 1 first strategy battle, save your game. If you win the strategy battle in Chris's chapter 1 defeating all the enemy units, Chris and her knights automatically gain 2 levels. If you let yourself get game over after finishing the strategy battle, you can continue from wherever you last saved with any new levels still intact. Using this method, you can fight the battle over and over and get Chris and her knights to level 99 eventually.
Suikoden IV[]
Sunset Skip Glitch[]
It is questionable if this glitch is covered anywhere else, and if it appears in all releases of Suikoden IV, but it appeared in the PAL release of the game, it is also debatable if this is to be called a "glitch".
During the liberation of Razril and before the speech in the Hall of Knight, if you spend the night in the inn in the town square of Razril, you can skip the townspeople talk to gather them to the Hall of Knights, you skip the speech event in the Hall of Knight as well, and more importantly, you skip the whole sunset event. In fact when you choose to spend the night, you literally spend the night, and awake the morning. This means all the characters such as Frederica, Gretchen, Karl who weren't recruitable before, are now, and the following events of the games continue as normal.
In fact, while this glitch could be an interesting asset for Speed Runners who want to finish the game the fastest way possible, the downside of this is you miss the sunset event, which means all the chests that are present during this unique moment (and could not be accessed later), such as the chests which contains the Silver Hammer or Hero's Shield at the Hall of Knights.
Suikoden V[]
The Raftfleet Glitch[]
Staying the night at the Raftfleet Inn after the "Intercepting Luger's Fleet" naval battle activates a glitch that takes you back to just before the battle begins, promptly making you go through the entire thing again. To end the glitch and continue on with the story, simply exit Raftfleet immediately after the battle without staying at the Inn.
Viki Teleportation Glitch[]
After Galleon reveals the truth behind Georg in your Headquarters, Viki won't teleport you until you go outside and talk to him. But after the talk, however, Viki's teleport was supposed to be available, but it won't. To be able to use Viki's teleport services again, the player must leave the castle by one of its exits, and then return.
