Humphrey | |
".....Yo!" |
Humphrey Mintz is the Tenyu Star in Suikoden and Suikoden II. He also makes an appearance in Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 2.
Profile[]
Background[]
Humphrey was born in SY 426. He later became a Lieutenant of the Scarlet Moon Empire's Elite Guards, and the Captain of the Imperial Army's Hundred Man Battalion. However, he quit after killing his superior during the Kalekka Incident and has been a fugitive ever since. He doesn't say much, but is very skilled with the sword.
Appearance[]
Humphrey appears to have a short blonde hair and brown eyes.
In Suikoden, he only wears a gray suit of armor with an orange cape.
In Suikoden II which is three years after the Gate Rune Wars, Humphrey is later seen wearing a green long sleeved collared tunic with white folded sleeves with a brown side belt at the left side of his tunic, black pants and brown boots. He also wears brown gloves and his cape is now yellow instead of orange which is long up to the back of his tunic.
Personality[]
Story[]
Suikoden I[]
He was one of the original members of the Liberation Army. During the Gate Rune Wars, he encounters his rival Kreutz at the Dragon Knights' Fortress and is revealed to be good friends with Joshua Levenheit. After Black died, Joshua asks Humphrey to take care of Futch, and he agreed. Since then, he has been travelling with Futch.
Suikoden II[]
During the Dunan Unification War, Humphrey and Futch were travelling to Harmonia but because of the war, the boarders were closed so they remained in Highway Village for a while. Riou was able to befriend Humphrey and he even paid for Riou and his party's stay in the inn. Humphrey, Futch and Riou along with his party, went to Mt. Rakutei in search for Kent. When they found Kent they also found a baby white dragon and rescued it. He later joined the New State Army and helped Riou in his fight against the Highland Army. After the war, he set off again on a journey for the One Temple of the Crystal Valley with Futch.
Role in the Game[]
Joins automatically after the original remaining members from the Liberation Army meet up at the new Headquarters.
Humphrey is a great front row fighter/tank. Although he has good strength and excellent defense, his downfall is his low speed and accuracy, but equipping him with the Windspun Armor and Speed Rings can offset this problem.

Humphrey is one of the few characters who can equip the Clone Rune. The Killer Rune is great too as he really has no business carrying any sort of magic rune.

Speak to Humphrey in the Inn at the Highway Village a few times. Complete the quest with him and Futch.
Just like his appearance in the first game, Humphrey boasts superior defense and good strength. With his ability to equip heavy armor and the possibility of carrying the Winspun Armor from the save transfer, Humphrey is one of the best front line tank in the game. unfortunately, he still suffers from low speed and technique making him almost always attack last and very rarely hitting more than once, and he is very vulnerable to magic.

Note: Humphrey still retains the sword he used in Suikoden.

- In Suikoden II, he has the highest protection point among the playable characters.
- Humphrey's relationship with Joshua is explained in Genso Suikoden Short Stories Volume 2.
- In the Suikoden II novels (volume 3), Riou and his party meet Humphrey and Futch after leaving Matilda with Camus and Miklotov. When they meet, Futch already has Bright with him.
