Jeane is a mysterious runemistress who has appeared in each of the five main games of the Suikoden series as the Chiketsu Star. She also appears in Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 1 and Suikoden Tactics. Very little has been revealed about her past or background in the games so far.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
While the series has spanned over centuries in game, she appears to not have aged. Many recurring characters, including Viki, Nash, and Futch, seem to believe she is the same person; Nash notes that she "never seems to change". In Suikoden V, Genoh perceives her to be of great age, but is confused by her youthful appearance. Also of note in Suikoden III, if the player controls Koroku and talks to her, she asks him to keep how he 'sees' her a secret, implying that her true form may not be human.
Jeane also bears a Charm Rune which has an unclear effect; it may cause men to be fascinated by or attracted to her, though she seems to manage to do that on looks alone. Some have speculated if it is the Charm Rune itself that causes her to appear so voluptuous and beautiful. In games which Jeane has a form usable in battle (Suikoden IV and Suikoden V), her Charm Rune sometimes causes enemies to protect her instead of attacking her.
Personality[]
Many of the games have featured a detective who can investigate your characters. However, none of these investigations of Jeane have revealed anything beyond the obvious, as the detectives seemingly become confused or intimidated. Suikoden IV has "confessionals" instead of investigations; Jeane "confesses" nothing but seems amused by the scenario.
Role in the Game[]
In-game, Jeane's primary role has been to serve as the player's Rune Sage. She sells runes and can remove and equip them from party members. In Suikoden V, she also can convert runes into spell scrolls, a service provided by different characters in other games. Jeane was able to join parties as a support character in Suikoden III, where she was able to improve spellcasters' casting times, and as a character in battle in Suikoden IV and Suikoden V. Aside from her permanently affixed Charm Rune, she also bears a (removable) Lightning Rune and has strong affinities for other runes as well. She uses a rod for physical combat.
Suikoden[]
She manages a rune shop in Antei. Wherein, after the war she returns to it.
Suikoden II[]
Three years after the Gate Rune Wars, She opens a rune shop in Two River. Jeane appears in Greenhill's struggle against Highland. She along with Connell volunteer to lend their knowledge of runes. Eventually, they were assigned the task of converting Runes into scrolls. Together they work all day long until they were running out of Runes to convert. On the first attack against Greenhill, Connell's unsuccessful attempts at using high level scrolls causes her to intercede and lend Nash her power. She was recruited later by Riou, leaving the control of her rune shop to Yuri. After the war, she returned to Antei to continue her work as a runemaster. She has a misterious connection with Raura.
Suikoden III[]
After fifteen years she gets reunited with both Nash and Futch in which, they both compliment her as she hasn't changed at all since their last meeting.
Suikoden IV[]
Jeane joins Razro at the Na-Nal Island, after deciding that her presence there was causing quite a stir. After the war ended, she vanished without a trace.
Suikoden Tactics[]
Jeane joins Kyril after he took the Rank A mission on the Quest Guild to gather Five Elemental Spirits and deliver them to the city of Haruna.
Suikoden V[]
In Suikoden V, Jeane was given a deeper role to play within the game and participates to a small degree in the plot. She appears to have met Zerase before, who seems to respect Jeane's considerable power as a runemistress. Jeane can apparently "force" some runes onto a bearer that usually can only be possessed by a person whom the Rune chooses (i.e. the Twilight Rune). She failed to do the same with the Sun Rune: in a piece of dialogue that takes place in Doraat, she reveals that she had "no luck" trying to control the Sun Rune.
She also seems to have a connection to very ancient ruins in Falena which used to be from the Old Armes Kingdom, which was destroyed by the Sun Rune a long time ago. The prince Freyjadour will be asked two times to go to these ancient ruins. The second time, Jeane met an old acquaintance, the mysterious Eresh, who is also connected to those ruins.

Talk to Jeane once after Greenhill is captured. After you have rescued Teresa, you can find Jeane in the Rune Shop of Two River. Talk to her and she will join you.

Talk to Jeane in her shop in Brass Castle and ask her to relocate to Budehuc Castle and she will.
Jeane is a support character with the (E Ranked) Healing ability that restores a little HP to your party after battle and the (A Ranked) Rune Sage ability that allows her to open her Rune Shop even out in the field and help characters cast their runes faster in battle.
Description: She barely acts, but still attracts a big audience.

It's not proper to bear runes blindly. You can show your true ablility when you bear a rune that suits you.

After launching your ship, talk to the people on Na-Nal Island until you hear them talk about the "Beautiful Rune Mistress" (you'll need to talk to a couple of people). Go to the Rune Shop of that island and ask about Jeane. She will show up and join you.
Jeane is one of the games strongest mages, she comes sporting a permanent Charm Rune and a Lightning Rune. Lightning is her best element affinity followed by Wind and Water but her naturally high Magic Stat combined with magic boosting gear can easily compensate for having average ability for fire and earth. Jeane is a bit slow and while the Charm Rune will occasionally protect her from enemy attacks it is still best to gear her for speed and evasion to compensate for her frailty.

First, speak with the guard at the entrance of the Big Hole. After the Battle of Lelcar, talk to Jeane in Lelcar's Rune Shop located on the Western Islet. Take her to the Big Hole northwest of Rainwall (and northeast of the Eastern Wharf). Take her through the entire dungeon until you reach the sarcophagus. She will join you regardless of your dialogue choice.
Jeane possesses the Rune Sage skill that allows you to equip or remove runes anywhere.
Jeane provides the Thunder spell to her military unit.
Jeane is tied with Viki as the 3rd strongest mage. She doesn't come with a high-level magic rune and is missing a skill slot due to her Unique Skill Rune Sage as well as the head rune slot because of her unique Charm Rune. Lightning is again her best affinity with respectable affinity to most elements except Dark. For late game use, it is imperative to raise her magic skills until she can access the Magic Epic Skills to compensate for her missing skills slot. She does have a minor bonus over other mage-type characters like Viki and Zerase in that she has access to the Sword of Magic Skill which can give her some better flexibility in combat.

Complete the "Fragments of Five Elements" [Rank A] from the Quest Guild and bring the five elements to an inn in Haruna, where Jeane will join you.
Jeane is a surprisingly flexible character with great magic and decent attack scores for a mage. She even gets high marks in several combat skills to help out. To compensate for this, she is slower than most characters and easily vulnerable with her light equipment options. She doesn't get access to any of the skills that can help compensate for this so instead it's best to build strategies around exploiting her high magical damage output. like switching out her lightning rune for a fire rune and exploiting skills like Blaze Wall while she's boosted on Lightning terrain. She's a powerful ally if you build your strategy around using her effectively and protecting her.

Development[]
The creators of Suikoden have said in an interview that "All of Jeane's family look alike," though this appears to have been said in a humorous light. Nonetheless, it is not clear whether Jeanes with similar appearance and personality traits (giggling frequently, answering questions evasively, and knowing a great deal about runes) exist, or if they are one ageless person.
It is also important to note that the game's creators have stated that Jeane does not possess a True Rune in any way, shape or form whatsoever (including the Charm Rune), thus causing much speculation about the true nature of her mystery. Jeane's lack of a True Rune is also seemingly verified in Suikoden III, when Lilly Pendragon is frustrated by her inability to find one anywhere on Jeane's body while they are in the bath house.

Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 1[]
In Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 1, Jeane makes a brief appearance when Nash reaches Greenhill during an attack by the Highland Army. She, alongside Connell, helps with the preparation of the Magic Offense on Greenhill. She even lent some of her power with Nash when he failed in trying to use a High Level Magic Scroll.
Genso Suikoden Card Stories[]
In Genso Suikoden Card Stories, Jeane appears as a character along with many other characters from the first two installments.

Trivia[]
- Koroku apparently can see her "true form".
- In Suikoden V, the designers chose to change Jeane's hair color (normally silvery-white so as not to get her confused with the Falena family, the members of whom possess silver hair as well); in that game, her hair is pink instead.
- Jeane is the most recurring character in the series.
- There is a running gag regarding Jeane and the series Investigators. None were able to draw any kind of information about her.
- In Suikoden IV, if she is in the main party at any time, she will replace Razro as the loading screen character. If Chiepoo is also in the party, however, he will take priority.
- Sometimes, three cats will also follow her on the loading screen.
