Kamandol was an alchemist of the Dennis Taurer from Teien who devoted his life to research. He detested interruptions to his experiments more than anything and even posted signs on his door to keep people away. He had a contentious relationship with his neighbor, the shipwright Gen, who frequently called him as "old man" in heated arguments. However, they shared a camaraderie of sorts, occasionally drinking together despite their squabbles.

Before the Gate Rune Wars, Kamandol was working on his alchemy in the town of Teien, developing an oil-powered engine to burn oil to produce motion. When his neighbor and friend Gen, with whom he tended to argue with more often then get along with, brought Tir over seeking a solution for passing the Dunan Rapids, Kamandol saw an opportunity to test his invention.
With the successful test, Kamandol joined the Liberation Army alongside Gen, helping to upgrade yet another boat at the castle using his technology. These upgraded boats move at twice the normal speed. After joining the Liberation Army, he secluded himself in the laboratory beneath the headquarters, focusing intensely on his research day and night. After the war, Kamandol returned to his alchemical studies.
