Overview[]
Muse is a city is located to the north of Dunan Lake in Muse Principality. Muse City is one of the 5 major State cities, the others being South Window City, Two River City, Greenhill City, and Tinto City.
Muse is the central hub of the City-States of Jowston and the largest city within it. The city boasts numerous bustling shops, including general stores, armor shops, blacksmiths, and medical facilities, though it lacks a dedicated trading post. Its main industries are commerce and trade. The western gate of the city leads to the renowned Jowston Hill, where the assembly hall for alliance meetings is situated. This gate is opened only for special occasions such as alliance meetings or ceremonies.
Before the outbreak of the Dunan Unification War, the population of Muse City was around 13,000.
Muse City Hall is the main government building and where many of the city workers can be found.
Millian's Armor Emporium is a shop that is run by highly reputed sisters.
History and Lore[]
Dunan Monarchy[]
Muse City flag
The city's history can be traced back to the 200s. When the Highland Army first started its invasions of the region, led by Maroux Blight, the autonomous Muse rebuffed the attacks with the leadership and strength of General Jowston. He was heralded as a hero, and important functions of the State were named after him, such as the Jowston Alliance, Jowston Hill, and the city-states themselves. His virtues were often used as a symbol of unity and perseverance for the allies.
The first mayor of Muse was a man named Revier, who set the foundation for the city to become a powerhouse within the former Kingdom of Dunan. Years later, after the fall of the Dunan Monarchy, Muse became the capital of the new Jowston Alliance.
City-State[]
In the past, Muse comprised itself of the lands now known as Matilda and Greenhill as well as the Kyaro area of Highland, making up more than half of the present-day Dunan Republic.
In the year SY 280, Muse started to recruit and train various knights in order to combat Highland's military. These elite warriors were known as the Matilda Knights and were given their own land and financial support. In the year SY 294, the Matilda Knights become independent and form their own domain in the northern Muse region.
The year SY 314 saw the Jowston Alliance formed at Jowston Hill in Muse City, thus marking Muse as the capital of the new City-States of Jowston.
In western Muse, Grand Leaf Academy was built in the year SY 362 to help further increase the number of jobs, as well as attract more people from outside the country. The academy was located in Greenhill. Eleven years later, in SY 373, Greenhill gained its independence. It wasn't until the year SY 392 that the Grand Leaf Academy was reformed and thus renamed New Leaf Academy.
Muse City operated under a republican system, with the mayor holding executive power.
Highland Conflict[]
In the year SY 428, Highland invaded the region and easily brought it under control. This is when the hero Genkaku emerged and used brilliant tactics to reclaim the lost lands. The area of Kyaro was lost to Highland in a duel between Genkaku and Han Cunningham.
It wasn't until Darel's daughter, Anabelle, took over in office that Muse was at the pinnacle of its success. There was trade that existed within Muse that stretched as far south as Kanakan and as far west as Zexen. Annabelle, was a highly skilled politician who worked to unite the often-contentious City-State Alliance. She was supported by capable subordinates, including her aide Jess, diplomat Fitcher, and Hauser, the commander-in-chief of the Muse City army.
In SY 460, Anabelle was assassinated and the entirety of Muse principality fell in short order to the Highland Kingdom and would remain that way for most of the war. Many refugees and soldiers fled from Muse during this time.
During the course of that war, Muse's citizens were rounded up by then-king of Highland Luca Blight and were sacrificed to the Beast Rune. The aftermath left only 1/3 of Muse's original population as survivors.
Post Dunan Unification War[]
The current mayor, Fitcher, had worked under Anabelle and Makai of Two River prior to his role in office. He was also an active participant in the Dunan Unification War, gathering important information for the strategist, Shu. Among Fitcher's achievements include restoring the economy and population, helping erase the scars of the war that were left in the city and its citizens, and improving relations with other nations and regions such as the Grasslands.
The Flag of Muse City[]
The flag of Muse City features green as its symbolic color, inspired by "Jowston Hill," from which the alliance takes its name. The flag depicts a vivid blue sky, a gently sloping hill—the site where the alliance was founded—and a large tree with widespread branches. However, this great tree has since withered and no longer exists.
