Rakutei Mountain (洛帝山; Rakutei San) is a location in Suikoden II.
Overview[]
Located in the northernmost part of the City-States of Jowston and later the Dunan Republic in the Matilda Knightdom, Rakutei Mountain is a volcano that is 650 meters above sea level. The name is supposedly connected to an old battle, but no one living today knows the reason. It is habitually enveloped in fog, and has been since olden times. In addition, there are dangerous monsters that live there, so there are few people who climb it, and many who do never return. It is a steep and craggy mountain, with volcanic activity. Due to geothermal activity in the area around the summit, the temperature is extremely high. Because of gas released at the summit, there is little vegetation.
During the Dunan Unification War, some people claimed to have seen a giant winged monster on this mountain. This may be connected to the egg that is thought to have been lain by a stray dragon at the summit. Futch and the others found it when they came to save their friend. The white dragon that had just hatched from the egg was named Bright, and Futch and the others took it with them.
Story[]
During the Dunan Unification War, Riou met Futch and Humphrey in the Highway Village where they were staying. They had been traveling to the Crystal Valley but due to the Dunan Unification War were unable to continue their journey. While there, Futch became friends with a boy named Kent and told him about the Dragon Knights. Kent decided to investigate the rumors of a dragon living on the mountain's summit. When he didn't return home, they decided to go rescue him.
The Bright Shield Rune was able to clear the fog on the mountain, and after climbing the mountain, the party found Kent, unconscious, after being attacked by a giant Harpy. They also found a dragon egg, which hatched before their very eyes. Futch christened the baby white dragon and named him Bright. Humphrey and Futch joined Riou's army, and returned the boy to Highway Village, with Futch promising to return and take Kent for a ride on a dragon one day.
