Sindar Writing (シンダル文字、Shindaru Moji) is a type of writing that appears in the Suikoden series.
Description[]
In the ruins left by the Sindar Tribe that are scattered around the world, these characters appear on the surface of walls and stone monuments, as well in special buildings. Because their construction ability and technology was so high, and the buildings are in such great condition, even if the items or buildings are from prehistory, the characters can still be deciphered. However, no characters for numbers have been discovered.
The writing is a phonetic script and followed standardized rules. Some private citizens and research institutions are said to be able to decipher this language.
The Characters[]
The characters are simply a substitution for Roman (Latin) letters. Using this code, it is possible to read what is on some of the maps and in guidebooks by changing the characters to roman letters, and often reading it as romanized Japanese.
Using this guide, the following text can be read.
GENSOSUIKODEN
The following other words appear on the map of Dunan:
- MIZUUMI = Lake (it appears on the lake in the middle of Dunan)
- AKATHUKI TEIKOKU = Scarlet Moon Empire (Usually, the romaji for this is written akatsuki あかつき. つ can be written as tu or tsu, but has been written as thu.)
- MAJYUTHUSI = Magician's Island (Usually, the romaji for this is written Majutsushi まじゅつし, but in another version of romaji, し can be written as si. つ can be written as tu or tsu, but has been written as thu)
