The Conquest of L'Renouille (ルルノイエ攻防戦: Rurunoie Koubou-sen), also known as the Battle of L'Renouille and The Last Battle (最後の戦い; Saigo no Tatakai), is the final army battle in Suikoden II.
Description[]
The Conquest of L'Renouille marks the final confrontation of the Dunan Unification War.
After liberating much of the City-States of Jowston, the New State Army launched an invasion into Highland Kingdom territory, advancing all the way to the royal capital, L'Renouille. The goal was to end the war decisively by toppling the Highland regime.
Despite fierce resistance, the New State Army — now significantly bolstered by prior victories — succeeded in breaching Highland defenses. The Highland Army, commanded by elite officers such as Culgan, Seed, Yuber, Han Cunningham, and Lucia of the Karaya Clan, mounted a last stand to defend the capital. Yuber ultimately withdrew from the battle, weakening Highland's position. The other forces were eventually defeated.
As the New State Army breached the capital, a six-person elite squad led by Riou fought through the remaining defenders. Inside L'Renouille Palace, they faced final challenges: Lucia, Seed, and Culgan were all defeated, and Riou personally bested Han Cunningham in a one-on-one duel.
The final obstacle came in the form of the Silver Wolf, a magical beast summoned by Leon Silverberg. Once the beast was vanquished, the war came to an end.
Game Play[]
The 2nd Highland Army is supported by the Karaya Clan, led by Lucia.
The generals Culgan, Seed, and Yuber each command Highland units. Yuber, however, is a mercenary and will flee during the battle, weakening the Highland defense.
The New State Army surrounds and captures the city. Following their victory, the Highland Kingdom collapses, and the Dunan Republic is founded.
