Rene found treasure
Treasure Hunt (宝探し; Takara Sagashi) is a minigame in Suikoden IV.
Description[]
This outdoor activity consists of following a treasure map and digging to recover the hidden treasure. The young dowser Rene was an adept of that hunt, and loved searching for treasure more than finding it. As such, she would often let her assistants keep the treasures.
After finding a strange message in a bottle on the beach of Nay Island, you can find and recruit Rene on Donut Island.
How to play[]
During the course of the game, you will find treasure maps, which are unreadable at first. Rene will decipher them for free and mark the place of the hidden treasure.
Once she has done so, you have to go on the spot designated on the map and start searching with Rene, who will use dowsing rods. The selected map is displayed in the top left corner. Running while searching is strongly discouraged as the focus needed to concentrate on the rods will be lost. However, you can run until you find a place which resembles the one you're looking for.
Once you get near the spot of the buried treasure, the rods start shaking slightly and indicate the direction in which the treasure is located. By walking a few more steps in the same direction, you will get very close to the treasure, at which point the dowsing rods shake so violently that it's impossible to read any direction any more. If you keep walking in the same direction for a couple more steps, all the agitation will cease and the rods will suddenly stop their movement and their ends will come together. This means that the treasure is under the feet of the searcher and you can start digging. If the location is indeed correct, the treasure will be found and marked as such on the map, preventing a distracted searcher from conducting the same hunt twice.
