Suikoden Wikia

So, the curtain drops. Suikoden V, the last game of the main universe ends, with a lot of cliffhangers, which last for over 10 years now. Who were the Crimson Pilgrims? Who was Eresh? What is happening on Armes at that time? Were some characters travel too? I hope we someday find the answers for that. Anyway, time for my rumblings.

The ending: I think was really well done. I don't believe the fight with the Sun Rune was forced, since like the Beast Rune and the True Wind Rune, the Sun Rune is pretty much the major reasons the war started. The Godwin family tried to use it to make Falena reign supreme, so it's the reason that the war raged. What I don't like as much is that Lyon collapses in the end despise she being okay moments before. Maybe because the Dawn Rune didn't heal her enough, but I dunno. But aside that, it was a pretty good ending. Very emotional as well. Lyon revival always drop me to tears.

Regarding the ending choices, I strong believe the "stay with Lym" is the more leaned with the canon than the "Travel with Georg". But, surprisly, both can be canon. I know that Georg appears alone in II, and say he USED to have friends, but could mean the Prince and Lyon traveled for a while with Georg and decided to return to Falena. After all, in the travel ending, Lym do say that her brother is traveling to known the world better, and have plans to return. So, both endings are viable, and good choices as well.

The Prince: Well, let's talk about the protagonist, shall we? While he doesn't talk, like previous protagonist, I really enjoy how he can express his emotions through the cutscenes. I really like that, it give him a lot of personality. I also like that despise the player choices, he keep a trait that Tenkai Stars have: He is really good hearted. I mean, even if you, for example, was being really mean with Lyon through the game, he still gets worried with her, and still kill Dolph with the Dawn Rune out of pure reflex and fear she would get hurt again. He is not my favorite protagonist, but I really enjoy him a lot.

Lyon: Well, well, if isn't Girl Gremio! Jokes aside, she is one of my favorite characters in the game. I think I like her more than Gremio because she isn't as over-protective towards the prince like Gremio was with Tir. She let the Prince take his decisions and believe in his judgement, which I like, since while I like Gremio as well, he really should have faith on Tir more, like Lyon does. I like her dedication. Sure, heavily implied crush aside, her loyalty comes from beyond that, as she really admires the Prince and Ferid to put her life in danger for them. All in all, she was really a good character, and I find her extremely adorable.

Skald Surprisly, another character who gets little Screentime, like Shula. Skald (who remind be a lot of Lino, for some reason, maybe because both are awesome dads), is really fun to watch, since he is the master of mind games. Like I said about Shula, is a shame we don't see him much.

Speaking on him and the Island Nations, I really enjoy the Nirva Island segment as a big fanservice to Suikoden IV. I was just dissapointed that the Island Nations battle theme don't play on the Ship Graveyard as wel. And while some people may get a bit annoyed for the fact that Flare took Lazlo credits in the Puppet Show, people seems to forget that Lazlo was never worred about getting famous or be remembered as a hero. He was always a person who just wanted to live a calm life. So much that the Deserted Island is his favorite spot. So if he saw that puppet show(maybe he did, who knows, he is still around, I bet), he won't mind giving the credit to Flare, after all, he just wanted a calm life, and I like to think he got what he wanted in these 150 years.

Miakis: Sorry Shula, sorry Lyon, sorry Skald, but Miakis IS my number one favorite character in the game. She is REALLY entertaining, and I never grow tired of reading her dialog boxes. I really enjoy these characters with a vast sense of humor, and know how to use it in the right times. You don't see her joking in serious times, and when she rarely does, she does to light the mood a little, which is really something nice.

Marscal I have no problem with him, but I think he gets outshined by his son. I dunno, he is not a bad villain, but he is not outstanding for that reason. Gizel take all the lightspot from him. All in all, I find him average.

Dolph I kinda like Dolph. He is what you expected from an Assassin: Calm, cold, and with no emotions. So he take his role as a menace pretty well.

Well, I will edit this blog if more ideas about things to talk about appear, but right now, that's all. Maybe I will create blogs for Tierkreis next, since is my next game, so, stay tunned.
